‘Angels of the North’ 🗞️🐕 Announcement: A Bold New Dog Photography Project
Hi, I’m Frankie Adamson, a specialist dog photographer based in Cumbria passionate about creating bold, artistic portraits of dogs in unique urban spaces. My style celebrates dogs as art, whether they’re standing proudly against historic landmarks, dramatic industrial backdrops, or the textured beauty of the northern landscape. After 3 years of running a successful photography business in Hong Kong, I’m now back in the UK and excited to share my latest creative project with you.
And the best part? I need your dogs!
What is ‘Angels of the North’?
Angels of the North is a creative dog photography project celebrating the spirit of northern England through powerful, artistic portraits of dogs in 12 cities over the next six months. I’ll be photographing 60 dogs in striking locations filled with character: think weathered brick, steel, and historic architecture that reflects the unique heritage of each city.
The goal? To create a 2026 Photography by Frankie charity calendar showcasing these stunning dogs and the beauty of the North. Each month will feature five standout portraits from a different northern city, with all proceeds supporting a dog charity that will be chosen later in 2025 with your involvement.
Why Get Involved?
This project is perfect for dog lovers who:
🐾 Love Unique Dog Portraits: Bold, artistic images where your dog takes centre stage amid a dramatic urban environment.
🎁 Would Enjoy a Free Professional Shoot: Selected dogs will receive a complimentary urban portrait session with me.
📸 Want to See Their Dog Featured: Your dog could be included in the Photography by Frankie 2026 charity calendar.
🐕 Appreciate Iconic Northern Scenery: Each photoshoot will highlight both your dog and the beauty of northern industrial and historic spaces.
💌 Want to Support a Good Cause: Calendar sales will directly benefit a dog charity (TBA).
How It Works
Apply: Each month, I’ll announce the next two/three cities I’m visiting in the following month. If your city is up, you can submit an application for your dog to be considered.
Be Selected: If chosen, you’ll receive a complimentary urban portrait session and an image perfectly sized for social media as a thank you.
The Shoot: I’ll create a series of unique portraits in stunning, character-filled cityscapes.
The Calendar: Five standout portraits from each city will be featured in the 2026 Photography by Frankie charity calendar which you - of course - will have priority to order.
Where and When?
So far, in 2025 I have visited Carlisle, Newcastle and Liverpool - and York is scheduled for mid-March.
In April 2025, I will visit Durham and Lancaster and I am now accepting applications for sessions in May for Leeds and Chester.

What Makes a Great Dog Model?
I’m looking for a variety of dogs to take part, from elegant sighthounds to scrappy terriers. No breed is too small or too big, but here’s some guidelines to see if your dog is suitable:
Comfortable in Urban Spaces: Dogs should be calm and confident in city environments.
Basic Obedience: Helpful but not absolutely essential - I can work with a whole manner of dogs, but it definitely helps if they have some obedience training.
Distinctive Personalities: Bold, quirky, playful — let your dog’s personality shine!
Let’s Create Something Unforgettable
Angels of the North is about celebrating dogs as works of art against the powerful textures of the North. Each image will capture the strength, spirit, and individuality of your dog, creating timeless portraits where they take centre stage in dramatic, character-filled locations.
This project is about storytelling and showcasing not just the beauty of the dogs but the raw, rugged charm of northern England’s industrial and historic spaces.
If you’d love to see your dog captured in a striking, artistic way while supporting a great cause, I’d love to hear from you. Together, we can create something truly unforgettable.
To make an application to this amazing project, please visit the Angels of the North landing page today.
